This document provides detailed answers to frequently asked questions about the Nexar rearview camera and highlights its key features.

Is the Nexar rearview camera compatible with all Nexar dash cams?

The Nexar rearview camera is only compatible with Nexar Connected Dash Cams, specifically the Nexar One, beam2 and beam2 mini models. It will not work with other dash cams, including Scosche or Nexar Pro.

Does the Nexar rearview camera only work when connected to the front camera?

The Nexar rearview camera is designed to work alongside a Nexar Connected front camera, as it connects via Bluetooth and transfers data to the front camera using Wi-Fi. It cannot function as a standalone device.

For full functionality, including clip creation and sharing, the rear camera relies on the front camera and requires an active Nexar Connect LTE Plan.

Do I have cable length options?

Yes, the Nexar rearview camera comes with a standard 11.5-foot cable in the box. If you need a longer option, a 16 foot cable is available for purchase separately. Click here to purchase.

Note: Before ordering, please confirm whether your vehicle has a rear cigarette lighter adapter port, as this may eliminate the need for an extended cable.

What's the power source of the Nexar rearview camera?

The Nexar rearview camera is usually powered through the rear cigarette lighter adapter port. If your vehicle doesn’t have a rear cigarette lighter adapter port, the rear camera can be connected to the front cigarette lighter adapter port for power. No additional wiring is needed in either case.

For larger vehicles, you may need a longer power cable when connecting the rear camera to the front cigarette lighter adapter port. The camera comes with a standard 11.5-foot cable in the box, but a 16 foot cable is available for purchase if needed. Click here to purchase the 16 foot cable.

Do I need a separate Nexar Connect LTE Plan for the Nexar rearview camera?

No, you do not need a separate LTE Plan for the Nexar rearview camera if you are using it with a Nexar One, beam2 and beam2 mini as the main camera. In this setup, the rear camera functionality is included within the Nexar Connect LTE Plan for the primary camera, so you can enjoy front and rear recordings without additional fees.

However, Beam users with a Nexar Classic subscription will need to purchase a Nexar One, beam2 or beam2 mini with a Nexar Connect LTE Plan to repurpose their Beam as a rear camera.

How can I retrieve videos from the Nexar rearview camera?

You can easily download videos from your Nexar rearview camera using the Nexar Connect app. When creating and downloading front camera clips, simply use the toggle in the app to include and download the rear camera footage.

Can I upgrade the Nexar rearview camera’s memory if I need more space?

No, the Nexar rearview camera comes with a fixed 32 GB SD card and there is no option to upgrade it at the moment. We also strongly discourage switching the internal memory as this will void your dash cam's warranty.

Does the Nexar rearview camera record 24/7?

No, the Nexar rearview camera only records when it receives power, typically while driving. At the end of each ride, it switches to parking mode and will record if an impact is detected.

Since the Nexar rearview camera is powered by a cigarette lighter adapter, it will stop waking up from impacts once the internal battery is depleted if the car is disconnected. However, the front cameras, connected via OBD or a Hardwire Kit, will continue waking up for impact.

Does the Nexar rearview camera also record parking incidents?

Yes, the Nexar rearview camera also has a parking mode feature that captures any incidents that occur while your car is parked. Both front and rear parking incident footage can be downloaded through the Nexar Connect app.

It is important to note, however, that the Nexar rearview camera’s wake-up sensitivity is different from that of Nexar One, beam2, or beam2 mini. As a result, certain impacts may trigger the front camera to wake, while the Nexar rearview camera may not respond.

Additionally, since the Nexar rearview camera is powered by CLA, it will cease waking up once its internal battery is depleted if the vehicle is disconnected.

Can I use CarPlay while the Nexar rearview camera is recording?

Yes, you can use CarPlay alongside your Nexar rearview camera. The Nexar rearview camera functions independently and doesn’t require pairing with your phone for most tasks. However, you should disable CarPlay temporarily during camera pairing. After completing this scenario, you can re-enable CarPlay and continue using it as normal.

Can the Nexar rearview camera withstand extreme temperatures?

Yes, the Nexar rearview camera is designed to operate in extreme temperatures, ranging from -4° to 158° F (-20° to 70° C). Whether you’re dealing with scorching summers or freezing winters, the rear camera will keep performing.

Can I use my old Nexar Beam as a rear camera?

Yes, you can use a Nexar Beam as a rear camera. To do this, perform a factory reset on the Nexar Beam, then pair it with your Nexar Connected dash cam. Keep in mind that the rear camera is not a standalone device and relies on a front-camera connection.

You would also have to switch to the new Nexar Connect app and uninstall the Nexar Classic app you were using previously for Beam to allow the new setup.
