Dash Cam Not Powering Off

This article will guide you in resolving issues with your dash cam not powering off or turning off.

1. Hardware & Accessory Checks

Always use the original cable, mount, and Nexar-provided power accessory that came with your camera. Third-party accessories can cause unexpected power behaviors.

  • Nexar One specific: Verify that the power cable is connected to the correct port on the mount. Do not plug it into any side add-on ports, as this can harm the dash cam.

2. Expected Power-Off Timers

Your dash cam's shutdown time depends on how it receives power:

  • Cigarette Lighter Adapter (CLA) (Regular Port): The dash cam turns off 30 seconds after you turn off the car engine.

  • Continuous Power Port (OBD or Hardwire Kit): It may take up to 2 minutes for the dash cam to fully power off after the vehicle is turned off.

Note: The beam4 model is powered exclusively by the OBD cable and does not use a Cigarette Lighter Adapter (CLA).

3. Check Phone WiFi Connection

If your dash cam is plugged into a continuous power port, it may stay powered on if it is still within range of your phone's WiFi signal. The camera interprets this active connection as a signal that you are still in the vehicle and driving.

To ensure the dash cam powers off correctly when you park:

  1. Open the Nexar Connect App and check if the dash cam is actively connected.

  2. If your phone is still connected to the dash cam, manually disconnect it within the app or simply turn off your phone's WiFi.

If you have verified your accessories, waited the expected shutdown time, disconnected your phone, and the issue still persists, please reach out to our support team for further assistance.
