Your dash cam comes equipped with a built-in temperature sensor to keep things running smoothly in hot conditions. Here is how it works and what to do if you encounter frequent overheating issues.
What is the High Temperature Voice Prompt?
If the temperature inside your vehicle climbs beyond the dash cam's optimal operating threshold (60°C/158°F), you will hear a voice prompt and automatically shut down.
This cool-down feature helps prevent any potential damage, ensuring your dash cam always works within safe limits. During this cool-down period (which can last up to 10 minutes), the dash cam will be inactive. Once it has cooled down, it will automatically power back up, restart, and continue recording your drive.
What to Do if the Dash Cam Keeps Shutting Down?
If you experience frequent shutdowns due to high temperatures, or if the camera no longer turns back on after cooling down, please follow these troubleshooting steps:
Important: Ensure you are only using the original cable, mount, and Nexar-provided power accessory.
Check for physical damage. Inspect the dash cam, mount, and accessories for any physical damage, such as signs of battery bloating.
Verify connections (Nexar One only). Ensure that the power cable is connected to the correct port on the mount and not to any add-on ports on the sides, as this can potentially harm the dash cam.
Allow the camera to cool. Give the dash cam a few minutes to cool down naturally until it reaches its optimal operating threshold.
Lower the cabin temperature. Allow the ambient temperature inside the vehicle to cool down by turning up the air conditioner or opening your windows. This helps the dash cam reach its safe operating threshold much quicker.
Keep firmware updated. Ensure your dash cam's firmware is up to date. (Note: Firmware updates are automatic as long as the dash cam is powered on and located in an area with a strong LTE signal.)
