Parking Mode Not Working

This article helps you troubleshoot if you experience issues with the parking mode feature not working.

If your dash cam's parking mode is not working or failing to activate, follow the steps below to recalibrate and test the feature.

Please note that in certain situations, the force of a parking incident may not be sufficient to trigger the camera's activation. Additionally, weak cellular reception at the location of the parking incident can hinder the camera's ability to turn on and notify you.

1. Before testing the camera, ensure your setup meets these requirements:

  • Accessories: Only use the original cable, Nexar-provided power accessory. Ensure the Nexar One power cable is connected to the correct port on the mount, not an add-on port.

  • LTE Plan: Make sure your LTE Protection Plan is active, as the parking mode feature relies heavily on this service.

  • WiFi: Ensure your phone's WiFi is off or disconnected from the dash cam. If connected, the camera might misinterpret this as driving activity.

  • App Settings:

    1. Plug the dash cam into power.

    2. Open the Nexar Connect app and go to More > Settings.

    3. Enable the Parking Mode toggle. If it is already enabled, toggle it OFF for 10 seconds, then switch it back ON to recalibrate.

2. The Shake Test

To verify if parking mode is functioning, perform a shake test by following these exact steps:

1. Turn off the car and WiFi: Turn off your vehicle's engine. Ensure your phone's WiFi is completely disabled so it disconnects from the camera.

2. Keep the camera undisturbed: Leave the dash cam completely alone to allow it to enter standby mode.

  • Regular power (Cigarette Lighter Adapter (CLA)): Keep it undisturbed for 5 minutes after the dash cam turns off.

  • Continuous power (OBD, Hardwire Kit, always-on CLA): Leave the car for at least 10 minutes. Ensure the dash cam's light indicator has turned off. (If it is still on, refer to the "Dash Cam Not Powering Off" troubleshooting guide).

3. Disconnect from power: Unplug the power cable from the camera.

4. Shake the dash cam: Give the dash cam a gentle shake. It should wake up, record a short parking clip, and then turn back off.

5. Check the Nexar Connect app: As long as your phone's cellular data is enabled, the app should notify you and save the parking incident to your phone immediately.

If the parking incident does not appear in the Nexar Connect app or the dash cam did not wake up after the shake test, please reach out to our support team for further assistance. Sharing a video of your shake test with our support team will be a great help in resolving the issue!
