Introduction

Welcome to the exciting world of geofencing! With our latest feature addition to the Fleet Monitoring product, you can now create custom geofences and receive real-time alerts when vehicles enter or exit designated areas. Geofencing empowers you to optimize your fleet management, improve operational efficiency, and make informed decisions based on valuable insights. In this support article, we'll guide you through the process of using geofencing to unlock the full potential of your fleet monitoring capabilities.

What is Geofencing?

Geofencing is a powerful tool that leverages location-based technology. By setting virtual boundaries, known as geofences, on a map, you can track and monitor your fleet's movements in real time. Whenever a vehicle enters or exits a geofence, a geofence event is triggered, providing you with valuable data and insights to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.

Creating a New Geofence

To create a new geofence and start enjoying the benefits of geofencing, follow these simple steps:

1. Log into the fleet monitoring system and navigate to the Geofences tab.

2. In the main view, you'll find a list of existing geofences. Click on the Add new geofence button.

3. The New geofence screen will open, allowing you to customize the geofence settings.

4. Edit the geofence name by clicking on the title.

5. Define the geofence area by dragging and adjusting the boundary on the map viewer.

6. Assign vehicles to the geofence by clicking on Assign vehicle and selecting the vehicles you want to receive alerts for.

7. Configure your preferred notification settings by clicking on Notifications settings.

8. Add the email addresses of relevant stakeholders for recipient alerts by clicking on Recipient alerts.

9. Once you've set up the geofence, click the Save geofence.

10. You'll be redirected to the main geofence view, where you will see the newly created geofence card added to the list.

Receiving Geofence Alerts

When a geofence event occurs, you'll receive an email notification with the relevant details. Here's what you can expect:

Real-Time Alert

If you've chosen real-time alerts as your notification preference, the email notification will include the following information:

1. Vehicle name

2. Geofence name

3. Time of entry or exit from the designated area

Alerts Summary

If you’ve chosen a daily, weekly, or monthly report, the email will summarize the geofence events for the designated period with the following details:

1. Names of vehicles involved

2. Geofence name

3. Time of entry or exit from the geofenced area

Managing Geofences: Delete and Edit

In your fleet monitoring system, you can edit and delete geofences as needed. To delete or edit a geofence, follow these steps:

1. Log in to your fleet monitoring system and navigate to the Geofence page.

2. On the Geofence tab, click the geofence you want to delete or edit.

Deleting a Geofence

1. Click the trash can icon at the top right corner of the geofence page

2. A popup window will appear with the message "Delete this geofence?"

3. If you are certain that you want to delete the geofence, click on the "Delete" button

4. The geofence will be removed from the screen, and you will be redirected to the main Geofences tab.

Editing a Geofence

1. Make the desired changes, such as resizing the geofence area, adding/removing vehicles, adding more email recipients, or changing the frequency of alerts.

2. Click the "Save geofence" button to update your geofence preferences.
