Accessing Drive Videos and Creating Clips

This article explains how to access Nexar drive recordings and how to access them in different scenarios.

Written by Bea

Your Nexar drive recordings are stored in two locations known as "Residencies." No matter where your videos are saved, you can access them in the Nexar Connect app as long as they haven't been overwritten.

💡In the Nexar Connect app, your trips are automatically saved as drive cards with a time-lapse preview, making it easy to review each drive. These recordings are saved without your phone needing to stay connected to the dash cam, as long as the camera has an active LTE Protection Plan.

Follow these steps to access your recordings and create Manual Clips:

Get High-Resolution Clip

The Get High-Resolution Clip button allows you to trim high-quality Clips from full Drive recordings. There are two options when downloading a high-resolution clip from your dash cam:

1. Remote Download

Remote Download lets you save high-resolution clips from your dash cam without a direct connection. Each clip can be up to five minutes long, which is ideal for capturing specific incidents.

To create a remote clip:

  1. Open the Nexar Connect app

  2. Under the Activity tab, choose the drive you want to save

  3. Switch between Road and Cabin views

  4. Tap Get High Resolution Clip

  5. Select Remote download

  6. Choose Road or Rear camera view

  7. Adjust the trimmer to select the part of the drive you want to save

  8. Tap Create remote clip

Note that the camera needs to be powered on for the clips to be saved in the app. Remote wake-up requires a stable cellular connection, an active LTE Protection Plan, and an OBD or Hardwiring Kit (HWK) power source and will not work with a cigarette lighter adapter (CLA).

2. Local download

Local Download lets you save up to 40-minute clips by connecting directly to the dash cam’s WiFi. This is ideal for capturing longer footage.

To create a local clip:

  1. Open the Nexar Connect app

  2. Under the Activity tab, choose the drive you want to save

  3. Tap Get High Resolution Clip

  4. Select Local download

  5. If the app is not connected to the dash cam, you'll be prompted to connect it. Follow on-screen instructions.

  6. Switch between Road and Cabin views. You can also tap Download both views.

  7. Adjust the trimmer to select the part of the drive you want to save

  8. Tap Download local clip

  9. Remain connected to the dash cam WiFi network until the video transfer is completed

Direct Camera Access

Direct Camera Access lets you download entire videos with no duration limits. By connecting directly to your camera via WiFi, you can stream full-quality footage to your phone, trim the parts you need, and save them to your camera roll.

To use direct access:

  1. Open the Nexar Connect app

  2. On the Activity tab, tap Access

  3. If not connected during the session: Follow the on-screen instructions

    • Turn on the dash cam and the phone’s WiFi

    • Plug the dash cam into power

    • Double-tap the power button

    • Tap the Power button in the app

    • Join your dash cam's WiFi network

  4. Select the drive you want to download

  5. Switch between Road and Cabin views. You can also tap Download both views.

  6. Adjust the trimmer to select the part of the drive you want to save

  7. Tap Download clip

  8. Remain connected to the dash cam WiFi network until the video transfer is completed

Overwritten by New Recordings

Drives that have been deleted from the Nexar dash cam’s internal memory are indicated by a greyed-out viewer with a slashed-out play button in the middle, with a message below that says “This video has been overwritten by new recordings. Learn more.“
