This article will help you understand how Nexar efficiently backs up your Nexar Connected dash cam's drives in multiple residencies.

What are "Residencies"?

We call the places where your videos are stored "residencies." Having more residencies increases the chances of recovering your videos.

There are two residencies where your Nexar Connected dash cam's drive recordings are saved: the dash cam's internal memory and Nexar Cloud.

Nexar Connected Dash Cam's Internal Memory

The internal memory refers to your Nexar One or Nexar beam2's built-in storage in the main unit. As soon as your dash cam is plugged into a power source and has completed the proper onboarding process, it will begin recording your drives in the internal memory once the blue/white light turns solid, even without the Nexar Connect app.

Overwritten Drives

When your dash cam's internal memory is full, older drive recordings will be overwritten by newer ones. This is indicated by a greyed-out viewer with a slashed-out play button in the middle. In this state, you will no longer be able to watch the drive video.

Road-View and Cabin Camera Footage in the Internal Memory

Your road-view and interior-facing (cabin) camera footage are automatically saved in the Nexar Connected dash cam's internal memory as soon as the dash cam receives power from the vehicle.

These videos can be retrieved through the Nexar Connect app by creating a Clip.

About Drives and Clips

You will see two types of videos when using the Nexar Connect app: Drives and Manual Clips.

Drives are videos of your entire trip. You can view them in the Nexar Connect app's Activity tab. They are useful for playback or as evidence for insurance claims.

Meanwhile, Clips are created when the Nexar Connect app detects events such as hard brakes or collisions while you're driving. You can also create Clips manually while driving or after you’ve completed your drive.

Clips are automatically saved to the Nexar Cloud, so you can watch them anytime and anywhere. You may also save Clips to your phone's camera roll.

To share a Clip online, use the Share button on the Clip Summary screen in the Nexar Connect app. Note that only Incident and Manual Clips can be shared online.

When Deleting Your Nexar Connect App

All videos that you downloaded locally to your phone storage will not be deleted when you uninstall the Nexar Connect app. Your videos that have already been uploaded to the Cloud are also still accessible to you.

Nexar Cloud

Only Nexar Connected dash cam Clips are backed up to the Nexar Cloud. These Clips are uploaded to the cloud using a WiFi connection or cellular data.

Cloud-saved clips can be retrieved through the Nexar Connect app at any time by simply going to the Activity tab and tapping the Clip you want to watch. Just make sure your phone has an internet connection.

Clips that are saved in the Nexar Cloud are saved there permanently. Manually deleted recordings are gone forever.
