Remote Livestream vs. Dash cam stream

Updated over a week ago

This article explains how the Dash cam stream and Remote Livestream work and the best situations for using each.

What is Dash cam stream?

Connect to your camera over WiFi and watch the live view right on your device! No delays, not remote, just an easy live view!

Important Note: The dash cam stream doesn't cache videos directly to the Nexar Connect app. Drives will still appear as timelapses. If you want to watch the drive at regular speed or save it to your phone, you can use the Direct Access feature. Meanwhile, to create clips remotely, use the Get High Resolution Clip option.

How to see the Dash cam stream from the app?

Simply connect the dash cam to your phone by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the Nexar Connect app.

  2. Tap the Stream button on the Map Tab.

  3. Select Local Stream

  4. Optional: Tap the cabin button to stream the cabin view

  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect your dash cam to your phone’s WiFi.

What is Remote Livestream?

View both the exterior and interior camera views in real-time right from your Nexar Connect app remotely!

  2. Open the Nexar Connect app

  3. Tap Stream on the Map tap

  4. Optional: Select Cabin to stream the cabin view.

  5. Tap Remote stream

  6. Tap End livestream to stop the stream

  • Note that only dash cams with an active LTE Protection Plan are able to use the remote streaming feature.

  • Each Remote Livestream session is limited to 3 minutes.

What's the difference between Dash cam stream and Remote Livestream?

There are a few things to remember to differentiate the two:

  1. Dash cam stream feature needs the camera connected to the phone's WIFi network. This way, you shouldn't experience delays in viewing the camera's live view. You can use this feature when relocating the dash cam on your car's windshield, etc. This can be done even with the Basic Plan.

  2. Since the Dash cam stream needs the camera and the phone connected, the phone has to be near the camera.

  3. Remote Livestream only needs the phone connected to the internet, whether via WiFi or cellular data, to view the camera's live view remotely from anywhere you are.

  4. Remote Livestream requires an active LTE Protection Plan.
